Collectable lamps

                        
   Its been a while since we have had to rely on oil
lamps to put light in our homes.
Thankfully for the sake of our eyesight alone
electricity was discovered. 
    Old oil lamp

                         
    Considered to be highly collectable
are the....Tiffany, Handel & Co.,and Pairpoint
lamps.
Tiffany, known for shades made in leaded
art glass with very decorative flowers, fruit,
and fish (the fish lamp shade is very rare).
Louis Comfort Tiffany was the son of the
founder of the well known jewelry store.
Tiffany's floor and table lamps were made
as early as the 1890s.
Genuine Tiffany bronze or gilt-bronze
bases were vinelike and naturalistic,
tree trunks and plant motifs.
Value of Tiffany's lamps are judged by
colorpattern, execution of design, rarity,
and condition.
Many of the lampshades were labeled. 
Commonly found on the inside bottom
edge (copper tab) marked TIFFANY
STUDIOS, New York, and some times
a style number. The bases usually
impressed with the firm's mark and often
a style number as well. 
    Handel lamps, like Tiffany lamps can be
leaded, or painted on the interior of their all
glass shades with colorful scenes when lit.
Handel lamps are marked with the companys
name (with or without a design number).
    One variety of Pairpoint all-glass lampshades
is known today as a "puffy". The shades were
molded in relief into plump floral forms before
their interiors were painted.
Some shades are stamped THE PAIRPOINT
CORP are occasionallywith a patent mark. The
bases made of metal and wood are usually
labeled, The all glass bases don't have permanent
marks.
