I realized as a young adult what
I didn't realize as a teenager.
I had my own way of "collecting"
everytime I bought a 45, 78,
or 33rpm record or album with
my weekly allowance.

Mom inherited some of my
Great Gramma and Gramma's
antiques and "old" things which
put her on the road to a better
appreciation of those "old"
beautiful dishes.
I remember when I was a young
married woman, Mom had gotten
involved with buying antiques
with my father. This also led to
Mom and I bonding as well in
"treasure" hunting.We went
"antiquing" as often as we
could.
At first it was dishes, and
figurines (mostly"occupied
Japan") Then mom received
an antique vanity for a gift
one year and the hunt was on
for one for me.
Through the years I took a great
deal of pleasure in knowing
just the right thing to get Mom
for gifts.
We were pretty addicted to our
little ventures in finding that
one antique bought for a song
that turned out to be the one we
all hope to find.
I now have some of the "treasures"
these great ladies left behind.
You know everything we collect
doesn't have to be older. There are
collectables all around us. The
popular movies that produce
figures, games, shirts, etc. are
good examples of creating a
collecting frenzy.
Recording artist are also good
sources of collectables.
It is not always a complete science
what the value of an item is.
Popularity can fluctuate with
demand. Prices can go out of
date making them useless.
Some items of course will
continue to be worth more
the older they become.
The real experts are the
ones to turn to when
checking on value. They will
help you hone your skills, and
instincts when you are at flea
markets, auctions, estate sales,
and antique shops.
